Slava Celebration - May 2, 2004

The Patronal Feast celebration of the St.George Serbian Orthodox Church in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania was held on May 2, 2004. His Grace Bishop Dr. MITOPHAN officiated at the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. Father Deacon Dragolsav Kosick, Diocesan Secretary, served as did parish priest Father Rodney Torbic.

Sonia Janson directed the St. George Choir. Mr. Joseph Hunchuck was the honored Kum for the Slava. Following the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, Festal Procession, Blessing of the Slavski Kolach and Kolijvo, a banquet was held in the church hall.

Mr. Stan Brozik, Parish Executive Board President, offered greetings and served as program host. His Grace Bishop Dr. MITROPHAN was the main speaker at the dinner program.

Kum Joseph Hunchuck

Kum Joseph Hunchuck was recognized for his love and work for the St. George Church. Protopresbyter Lt. Colonel Adam Yonitch, Father Rodney Torbic, Executive Board Vice-President Dr. Ivko Dimitric, Choir and Kolo President Sonia Janson, Church School Coordinator Mildred Bezjak and Parish Nurse Mitzie Hunchuck offerred remarks at the dinner.

Father Vitaly and Matushka Irene Dudkin from Holy Trinity Orthodox Church of New Salem and Father Rumen and Matushka Katya Stoychev of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in Masontown were in attendance at the dinner. Brother Thomas Sommerfield, Pastoral Care Director of Mt. St. Macrina Manor was among the many parishioners and friends of the parish present.

The St. George Serbian Orthodox Church of Carmichaels is in the fiftieth year of existence serving Greene, Fayette and portions of Washington County in Southwestern Pennsylvania and nearby West Virginia.

The Slava celebration each year is always an important time at the St. George Church when faithful believers can gather together in the Divine Liturgy and give thanks to God. The presence of the Diocesan Bishop always adds specialness to and gives emphasis to the importance of the celebration.
