St. George Choir Slava

The St. George Serbian Orthodox Church Choir celebrated its patronal feast on Sunday
November 14, 2004 with prayers offered for the living and departed members at the Divine
Liturgy.
The feastal bread and memorial wheat were blessed at the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy.
The festal dinner and program followed in the Church hall.
Sonia Janson serves as Choir Director. Andrea Janson is Associate Director. Aaron Carson
was honored Kum for the festal celebration.
At the dinner program speakers included Andrea Janson, Executive Board President
Stan Brozik, Executive Board Vice-President Dr. Ivko Dimitric, Kum Aaron Carson and
Father Rodney Torbic.
Mr. Carson is a student at Geneva College. He is enrolled in the Orthodox Late Vocations
Program. In addition to singing in the St. George Choir, Mr. Carson’s Church involvement has
included serving as a counsellor at Shadeland Camp for a summer and assisting with parish day
camps.
Mr. Carson has completed considerable research on the Robena Mine Explosion in which thirty
seven men lost their lives. He presently is researching the 1959 strike against Jones and
Laughlin Steel.
The contributions of the St. George Choir are immeasurable. The Choir sings at the weekly
and festal Divine Liturgies, at baptisms, weddings and funerals.
The St. George Choir is heard each Sunday on the parish weekly radio broadcast reaching
out to travelers, those at work, the homebound, those in care and nursing homes, rehab centers
and jails and prisons.
Recently with the help of Tom Hunter, the Choir complete a compact disc of the Divine
Liturgy and this has served as an additional outreach effort touching the lives of many.
The St. George Choir is greatly appreciated by parishioners. The St. George Choir
enriches the hearts and souls of many people near and far.
