by Fr. Rodney Torbic

On August 25, 1970, The Very Reverend Stavrofor Vasilije Sokolovic was ordained to the Holy Priesthood at the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Carmichaels, Pennsylvania.

Father Sokolovic is the forty-second clergyman in his family dating back to the sixteenth century to the time of the Serbian Patriarch St. Makarije, the first in the line of the succeeding forty two Sokolovic clergy.

This year Father Vasilije's father, the Priestmartyr St. Budimir (Sokolovic) was canonized by the Serbian Orthodox Church.

Father Vasilje Sokolovic served the St. George Church in Carmichaels from October 1970 to May 1975. Father Sokolovic is well remembered by the parishioners of the St. George Church and he and his family maintain regular contact with the parish.

Father Sokolovic and his wife Protonica Zorine returned to the St.George Church in 2004 to participate in a wedding and in the Fiftieth Anniversary celebration of the Consecration of the St. George Church.

Following his service at the St.George Church, Father Vasilje served the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church in Steubenville, Ohio and the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of Cleveland, Ohio.

On Sunday October 16, 2005, Very Reverend Stavrofor Vasilije Sokolovic was honored with a reception at the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of Cleveland for his thirty-five years of service in the Holy Priesthood.
